Shelter / Go Home Early Drill In 1993, the Fayetteville-Manlius School District adopted an Emergency Management Plan in accordance with NYS Department of Education Commission regulations. The intent of the plan is to designate and prepare for responses appropriate to specific emergencies. These responses vary from police, fire, or medical assistance, to sheltering within school buildings, or to evacuation. Two drills are held each year, which are designed to simulate real emergencies. The first is a GO HOME drill, which requires early dismissal from school. The second is a sheltering drill, which requires students to leave their classrooms and move to a common area (a gymnasium, cafeteria, or auditorium).
PLEASE NOTE: There will be no after school activities on a "Go Home Early" drill day. Please make sure your child knows where he/she will be transported, and write a note to your child’s teacher IF THE DESTINATION IS SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN WHERE YOUR CHILD USUALLY GOES AT DISMISSAL TIME. If we do not hear from you, your child will be transported to their usual destination (home, day care, etc.). Since children need to know where to go in the event of a real emergency, we recommend that you do not pick your child up at school. We’d like to suggest that you write on an index card your child’s name and the address and phone number of where your child should go in the event of an emergency, and have your child keep it in his/her backpack for the entire school year. |
